Description
When Lorene Alexander’s new husband ships out to the Pacific with the Navy in 1944, she is left behind in rural Illinois holding fast to hope for the day he returns home. While volunteering at the Red Cross Canteen, serving soldiers passing through on their way to the war, Lorene pours herself into the effort and into dreams of the life she and Amos will build together.
But when the war ends and Amos finally comes home, their long-awaited reunion is not the homecoming either of them imagined. A devastating turn of events forces them to confront a future far different from the one they planned, testing the love, faith, and resilience that carried them through the years apart.
As Lorene fights to reclaim her strength and Amos struggles to find his place beside her, the couple faces battles no one could have prepared them for. The war may be over, but the fight to hold on to their dreams—and to each other—has only begun. Through heartbreak, uncertainty, and unexpected challenges, Lorene and Amos must discover whether hope can take root again amid the wreckage.
