Description

Ella Mae Davenport, star biologist of Animal Spirit, never intended to go back to her family’s horse farm in Berryville, Maryland. But when a sudden plane crash took the life of her husband and she learned of his heartbreaking betrayal, she returns looking for new meaning and purpose in her life. After traveling the world for her hit nature show, she thinks nothing can surprise her, especially in her small hometown where nothing seems to change. That is until she opens the farmhouse door and finds her first love, the ruggedly handsome town farrier Lee Montgomery, standing on the front porch.

Lee Montgomery’s wife abandoned him for the city years ago, leaving him all the more determined to live the quiet life he’d always planned on. He has committed himself to his job as a farrier, caring for the horses of the town and the people that mean so much to him. When Ella Mae returns to Berryville, Lee makes it his mission to help her rediscover the importance of home and family. His love for her may have grown over the years, but past mistakes resurface leaving him unsure if a small-town future is right for them.

As they struggle to overcome their pasts, will Ella Mae and Lee have a second chance at love?

This is Marie’s first book in the Hometown Love series. The small town setting with a loving community is a very attractive one, and I enjoyed getting to know all the various characters who live there. I liked the handling of various disabilities and how various family members deal with them. There are a lot of plot twists to keep things moving – usually when I thought things were just getting sorted out. I appreciated the insights on learning to trust God and let Him be in control.

I received a complimentary copy this book from the publishers. I was not required to provide a positive review. All opinions expressed are mine alone.

This novel has everything readers look for in a small-town second-chance romance:
a warm and welcoming setting (Berryville, MD) populated by memorable characters
a heroine (Ella) rising above the challenges life has thrown at her (including widowhood) and starting over fresh
a hero (Lee) with a heart of gold
believable and sometimes complicated family relationships
    a satisfying happy ending

I loved the world of this story. I loved Berryville, and its residents, Pa and his devotion to the family farm, Abby, Ella’s niece with cerebral palsy who uses equine-assisted therapy, and Ella’s reinvention of herself after the death of her husband and the loss of her TV show. I also loved her rekindled romantic connection with Lee, and the way they work things out in order to have a promising future.

If you like animals, farm life, family drama, Christian themes, and hopeful endings, you’ll love Welcome Home, Ella Mae! It’s a good one for this time of year, too, as a portion of the story takes place during Christmas.

A complimentary ebook copy of this book was provided to me by the publisher.

Welcome home Ella Mae by Coleen Marie was an great read !
It was the first book from this author that I read and I enjoyed it.
Ella Mae is going back home after her husband’s death and she will learn that being home is not what she expected.
Lee was left by his wife for the big city and he is determined to stay in his small town.
A great stoy about second chances with a lot of twists. When I thought the story was going to be over, it wasn’t 🙂 I wasn’t expecting some parts of the plot and that kept the book intereting, and kept me reading.
The characters were lovable and really well described.
